Universal Lighting Technologies is one of the first to be approved by the National Lighting Bureau’s (NLB) Trusted Warranty Evaluation Program, designed to be a validator for companies that reliably stand behind their warranty.

With a goal of improving office workers’ comfort, wellbeing, and productivity, buildings are being designed to bring as much daylight as possible into occupied spaces.

In some cases, the ballast’s plastic housing can melt slightly where the glass coil connects to the ballast, the Green Guide states, noting that this “is simply a sign that the heat is escaping as intended in the design of the bulb.”

The continued uptick in construction activity, while slow, seems steady, but nonresidential construction is not faring as well. Advance data for the second quarter of 2012 indicates an almost 4% drop on an annualized basis, in part because of a significant decline in publicly funded infrastructure investment. However, commercial construction is growing slowly.

With technology improvements, there is continued opportunity for facility managers to upgrade their systems to reduce energy consumption and costs. Renovating this system could provide a fast track to savings.

While world demand is expected to hit 180,000 tons/year in 2012, world supply that year is likely to be less than 160,000 tons. In 2010, China set its export quota at 30,000 tons.
