William asks:

How many rest rooms are required for a facility that employs 350 people daily? We’re considering some building renovations and would like to reference current specifications. We employ some disabled adults. In a previous response, you mentioned the UPC from the local ordinance; is other information available?

James Elledge replies ...

The state of Ohio has adopted the 2003 edition of the International Plumbing Code. A chart on minimum number of rest room fixtures can be found at http://americanrestroom.org/code/ipc_chapter4.pdf.

Depending on the type of facility, the standards are one water closet per 50 people (for a business); or one per 100 people (in a factory).

More details are available online from the International Code Council at www.iccsafe.org.

Thanks for your question.

Jim Elledge
