QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Paint Or Laminate?

Q. Is there a laminating material that can go right over old laminate to reface cabinets? Or is there a paint that doesn’t look like paint and is long lasting?

  1. There is! We used a product provided by Surfacequest created by Belbien on some interior cabinets. The cost was about $1,500 installed which was much cheaper than replacing the cabinets at $5,000. It has held up fine over the last 1.5 years.

They have everything from realistic wood patterns to metal and marble looking finishes. The website says it can be used for exterior applications as well. It has a fire rating and can be used for curved surfaces like columns, soffits and beyond. You can find a dealer online at http://www.surfacequest.com.
