At the Pinellas County jail, one member of the facility management department is red faced…and guilty. According to a report from Tampa Bay’s 10 News, a county employee was recently arrested for using inmate labor to steal tools from inside the county jail.
The accused, Kenneth Allen Lyke of St. Petersburgh, holds the title of “Craftworker II” in the Pinellas County Facility Management department. He was able to convince inmates working under his supervision that “he was authorized to open a locked toolbox inside the Facility Management Building. The inmates then drilled through the lock on the toolbox.”
Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Jim Bordner, says, “Upon learning that the theft had been reported, the suspect later removed the tools from his locker and hid them in various locations within the Facility Management Building.”
Lyke has admitted his guilt, and all of the tools have been recovered.
